The Bangor shop supports the charity’s work across north west Wales
The MS for Arfon has joined calls for more volunteers at the Tŷ Gobaith shop in Bangor. The shop, located on the High Street in Bangor raises funds for the charity that offers support to children and families across north west Wales.
Siân Gwenllian recently visited the shop to speak to staff and volunteers about the challenges the voluntary sector faces, and learn more about their push for more volunteers.
She said:
“The work that Tŷ Gobaith does to support children and their families is invaluable, even with limited resources. They currently receive only 12% of their care costs from the Welsh Government, which means they are only able to reach the 10% of the 3,655 children in Wales with a life shortening or life-threatening condition.
“The demand on the charity makes their fundraising work even more important, and their shops, including the one in Bangor is a vital part of that effort.
“Many charities and community projects note they have lost a significant number of volunteers since the pandemic, and Tŷ Gobaith isn’t different in facing challenges.
“And the shop is important not just as a fundraising asset. It’s also a point-of-contact for the charity, a place to seek information and support about their work supporting families.
“I urge local people who can give some of their time to support this charity reach the children they are currently struggling to reach. You won’t just be helping the charity of course, as volunteering brings its own personal benefits. As well as giving volunteers a sense of purpose and fulfilment, it’s an opportunity to socialise.”
Those interested in volunteering should pop in to the shop for a chat at 306 High Street, or ring them on 01248 355 644.
