Siân Gwenllian MS has supported FUW’s Farmhouse Breakfast Week urging people to support our farmers’ high-quality produce.
It’s the time of the year that, under normal circumstances, the FUW would be looking forward to the Farmhouse Breakfast Week, which is an opportunity to promote quality local produce that farmers grow. It’s also an opportunity for the FUW to shine a spotlight on the importance of our rural economy.
Nevertheless, given the on-going Covid-19 restrictions, the usual way of running this campaign is impossible in 2021.
The Farmers’ Union of Wales’ events will run from Monday 18 - Sunday 24 January 2021.
Siân Gwenllian MS, who represents Arfon in the Senedd and who would ordinarily be attending one of the FUW’s breakfasts in her constituency said;
“I’m glad that we can still celebrate prime local produce, and promote our local agriculture industry despite Covid-19 reactions.
I’m also delighted to see local Arfon businesses taking part.”
3 Arfon businesses are involved in the Breakfast Week, that encourages people to buy local premium produce from participating businesses.
“Caffi Gerlan, Groeslon, O G Owen, Caernarfon, and Wavells Butchers Ltd, Llanrug will be participating in the event.
“We are fortunate to have these local businesses within reach.
“They have been vital to local people in the past few months of travel restrictions and isolation, and I hope that we have gained a renewed appreciation of local businesses and local produce.”
The FUW are encouraging the public to get involved with breakfast week by purchasing locally sourced breakfast ingredients, and sharing photos and videos of themselves with their breakfast through social media, using the hashtag #breakfastweek2021.
FUW President Glyn Roberts said: “However, the ethos of sitting around the kitchen table to enjoy the wonderful produce our farmers produce from eggs, cheese, bacon, sausages to butters and yoghurts etc, is still very much do-able at home with our closest family.”
The campaign is further hoping to raise vital funds for the DPJ Foundation by asking consumers to make a small donation alongside their breakfast produce purchase.
The local Member of the Senedd added;
“I’m happy to be able to support this worthy cause from home this year.
“I would usually be attending one of the breakfasts held in the constituency. They are a reflection of the community spirit within our agricultural communities, in addition to being opportunities to support our farmers.
“I urge others to support the FUW’s Farmhouse Breakfast Week and contribute if you can.”
