Response from Plaid Cymru Arfon MP Hywel Williams and MS Sian Gwenllian to news that talks between Northwood Hygiene and Unite the union on the future of the factory in Penygroes were unsuccessful.
Hywel Williams MP and Siân Gwenllian MS said,
'This is devastating news and a real setback to efforts to safeguard the ninety-four local jobs in Penygroes. A significant amount of work and lobbying has been going on behind the scenes to shore-up support across all levels of local and national government to try and protect the skilled workforce at Penygroes, at a time when the local economy can ill-afford such substantial job losses.
''Whilst we share the overwhelming sense of disappointment at the outcome of talks between Northwood Hygiene and Unite, it remains the case that all other options must be explored to find a sustainable, long-term solution that safeguards the site and local jobs. We will be seeking further meetings with both Gwynedd Council and Welsh Government to discuss the next steps. Our thoughts remain with the local workers and their families at this difficult and uncertain time.'
