Plaid Cymru MP for Arfon Hywel Williams has thanked constituents in his Arfon constituency for showing ‘great generosity’ by supporting the annual Neighbourhood Food Collection day held at his local Tesco stores in Caernarfon and Bangor.
The Neighbourhood Food Collection is held twice a year in all Tesco stores in partnerships with the Trussell Trust. In 2015, 1,109,309 three-day emergency food parcels were handed out to families in need, with 400,000 of those going to children.
Hywel Williams MP said,
“It was great to see so many people joining in and contributing food to the local collection, both in Caernarfon and Bangor.”
“It’s thanks to the generosity of public giving and the time and effort of volunteers that those in need of help are able to keep themselves and their families fed this winter.”
“I pay tribute to the work carried out by the Trussell Trust who operate the Caernarfon foodbank and for Tesco Caernarfon and Bangor for making this event possible. Tesco’s continued commitment to helping those who need a helping hand is greatly appreciated by all.”
“Initiatives such as the Neighbourhood Food Collection are the result of generous people helping the most vulnerable in society when the Government has failed them and I’m humbled to do my bit to support this worthwhile cause.”
“If this Government continues attacking the vulnerable, more and more people will become reliant on the generosity of others for help. One thing is certain, the people of my constituency are ready and willing to do their bit.”
Siân Gwenllian AM added,
“I commend the generosity of Bangor and Caernarfon Tesco customers who have helped so many people who have to rely on volunteers and charitable organisations for help.”
“I also congratulate the staff at the store in Bangor and Caernarfon for their commitment and hard work within the store and in raising awareness of this pressing issue.”
