Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Arfon Hywel Williams joined local firefighters at Caernarfon Fire Station on Friday to commemorate Firefighters' Memorial Day with a minutes silence taking place at 12pm to remember the bravery and sacrifice of firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Firefighters' Memorial Day started in 2017 and will be marked on 4 May every year to remember the 2,524 members of the fire and rescue service who have died while protecting the public.

Hywel Williams MP has also signed EDM1209 in Westminster supporting Firefighters Memorial Day.

Hywel Williams MP said,

‘Since the formation of the fire brigade 2,524 serving firefighters have lost their lives in the line of duty.’

‘It is this bravery, courage and selflessness that makes our fire service such an asset and provides perfect justification as to why MP’s should support Firefighter’s Memorial Day.’

‘I would like to thank all the firefighters across Arfon, to those based in Caernarfon, Bangor and Llanberis for their courage and sense of care to others.’

‘Each one should be proud of their work and the help they give others in often the most demanding, dangerous circumstances.’
