The planting at Saron was part of the NFU’s #GrowingTogether campaign
Siân Gwenllian, Arfon’s representative in the Welsh Parliament has recently planted an oak tree on Ty’n Rhos farm in Saron, as part of the union’s #GrowingTogether campaign. The tree was kindly supplied by Coed Cadw – The Woodland Trust in Wales.
The National Farmers Union’s #GrowingTogether campaign promotes the planting of more trees integrated into farming systems, as part of a strategy for sustainable woodland expansion in Wales.
Following her visit to the farm, Siân Gwenllian MS said:
“I was concerned recently to hear of unregulated tree planting from large multinational companies risking Welsh agriculture. To achieve meaningful climate action in Wales, we must work closely with our vital farming industry.
“That’s why I’m glad to hear the NFU’s #GrowingTogether initiative advocates more trees integrated into farming systems – rather than replacing farming systems.
“I’m glad that the NFU is shouldering some of the responsibility for mitigating and adapting to the challenges presented by climate change.
“I recently attended a Climate Justice rally at Bangor and was witness to the passion and commitment of local people to climate action.
“Recently, I’ve also visited the Dyffryn Gwyrdd project in the Ogwen Valley, Beics Antur in Caernarfon and Ogwen Valley’s new electric cars. All initiatives have creative solutions to the challenges we face.
“I also recently joined Climate Cymru’s 10,000 voices campaign, and joined Plaid Cymru colleagues in calling for Net zero emissions by 2035, introducing a Nature Act and restoring biodiversity by 2050, and establishing a Welsh energy development company.
“I’d like thank NFU Cymru for being part of their latest campaign.”
