O.P. Huws, one of Dyffryn Nantlle's most prominent figures, has recently received a Special Contribution Award at the Plaid Cymru Conference in Aberystwyth.
The award is given annually to members who have made a lifetime contribution to Plaid Cymru, and the recognition was received by O.P.'s son, Dr. Bleddyn Huws, on behalf of his father.
O.P. was nominated by the Plaid Cymru Arfon Constituency Committee, and the award was presented by his close friend Alun Ffred.
Although he was born in Dyffryn Ceiriog, O.P. moved to Dyffryn Nantlle as a young man. He started campaigning for Plaid Cymru after being inspired by a well-known local councillor, Wmffra Roberts. He sat as a Community Councilor in the name of Plaid Cymru for fifty years, and was elected as a District Councillor for the seat of Llanllyfni, before being elected as a County Councillor after the reorganisation.
He was active in his area, fighting for the local school and establishing the Cymdeithas Ardal to assimilate newcomers to the area. He, above all, was responsible for creating Antur Nantlle as well.
In addition to that, the people of Dyffryn Nantlle will be aware of O.P's success as a businessman, in the chicken industry and with Cwmni Recordiau Sain.
According to Siân Gwenllian MS:
"The award is a well-deserved recognition of O.P.'s enormous commitment to the cause over the years, laying a solid foundation for the strong position the party is in in Arfon today.
"Plaid Cymru's success is completely dependent on the work of volunteers, and I am proud to see one of our most loyal volunteers being rewarded."
